Your Role:
As a Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) Supervisor, you will oversee the daily operations, productivity, and quality performance of a team of CDI specialists. You will ensure accurate clinical documentation, regulatory compliance, and the achievement of operational and client performance goals.
Specifically, you will:
- Supervise daily CDI operations, including staff scheduling, workload distribution, onboarding, coaching, and performance management.
- Monitor team productivity, documentation quality, and turnaround times to ensure service level agreements and quality standards are consistently met.
- Conduct documentation audits and quality assurance reviews to ensure compliance with ICD-10-CM/PCS coding guidelines, CMS regulations, and industry best practices.
- Partner with Billing, Revenue Cycle, and Accounts Receivable teams to identify and address documentation or coding-related denials and implement process improvements.
- Prepare and present key performance indicators (KPIs), operational updates, and quality improvement initiatives to leadership.
- Collaborate with Health Information Management (HIM), Revenue Integrity, Coding, Billing, and IT teams to support documentation accuracy and optimize clinical workflows.
- Deliver ongoing coaching, education, and mentorship to CDI team members to promote professional development and support succession planning.
- Work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to resolve complex clinical documentation issues and improve documentation quality.
What You Need:
Non-negotiables
- At least 2 years of leadership experience in an inpatient Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) supervisory role.
- Minimum of 2 years of acute care clinical experience in a hospital setting, preferably in ICU or Medical-Surgical units.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Active Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) Registered Nurse (PHRN) license or active USRN license.
- Current professional certification such as CCDS, CDIP, or CCS.
- Strong knowledge of Revenue Cycle Management (RCM), ICD-10-CM/PCS coding, MS-DRG methodology, and risk adjustment.
- Experience using hospital electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Epic, Cerner, or Meditech.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills (minimum CEFR B2 level).
Preferred skills/expertise
- Master's degree or postgraduate qualification in healthcare, business administration, or a related field.
- Experience using CDI and coding technologies, as well as Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Proven ability to lead teams and work effectively in a fast-paced, matrixed healthcare environment.
